Lefroy Christmas Classic Champions!
Hard work, resilience, and heart carried them all the way to the title.
After opening the tournament with a win against Bradford and a tough loss to Ennismore, the team needed at least a tie against hometown Lefroy to advance. They battled hard and tied the game with only 1 minute and 29 seconds left in the third period, which kicked off an incredible stretch of four straight comeback games.
In the quarter final, they once again found themselves trailing Ennismore. With only 4 seconds left, they scored to tie the game and force sudden death 3 on 3 overtime. They stayed composed, buried the winner, and earned redemption against the one team that had beaten them earlier.
The semi final began with another deficit, but the boys responded with an outstanding effort and surged to a 6 to 2 victory over Stony Creek 2, one of the few undefeated teams still standing.
The final matchup was against another strong and undefeated opponent, Stony Creek 1. Down 2 to 1 with less than three minutes to play, they capitalized to tie the game. Just over a minute later, they struck again to take the lead and then battled fiercely for the final 90 seconds to secure the championship.
There were great goals and assists from so many players, rock solid defense, and amazing goaltending that kept the team in every game. As Coach Brett often reminds them, the hardest working team wins. That message proved true again and again throughout the weekend.
